Napravená křivda: Příběh sbírky Stefana Hellera

Výstava představuje výjimečný soubor uměleckých děl ze sbírky moravského podnikatele Stefana Hellera, která byla během druhé světové války zkonfiskována. Po desetiletích strávených ve státních sbírkách se díky spolupráci s Centrem pro dokumentaci majetkových převodů kulturních statků obětí druhé světové války podařilo potvrdit jejich původ a úspěšně završit proces majetkového vyrovnání.

Výstava je zároveň svědectvím úspěšného dialogu mezi galerií a dědici původních majitelů. Díky finanční podpoře Ministerstva kultury ČR mohla Moravská galerie odkoupit tři klíčová díla zpět do svých sbírek, zatímco čtvrtý obraz se rodina Hellerových velkoryse rozhodla instituci darovat. Tato díla tak zůstávají v Brně jako trvalá připomínka kulturního odkazu rodiny Hellerových i jako symbol spravedlivého narovnání historických křivd.

Projekt vznikl v úzké spolupráci s Centrem pro dokumentaci majetkových převodů kulturních statků obětí druhé světové války a kanceláří pro zpracování žádostí o náhradu škody způsobené holocaustem státu New York a je součástí programu brněnského festivalu ŠTETL FEST.

Příběh rodiny Hellerových je úzce spjat s historií jejich továrny a podnikatelskými aktivitami, které významně ovlivnily region. The exhibition presents an exceptional group of artworks from the collection of Moravian entrepreneur Stefan Heller, which was confiscated during the Second World War. After decades spent in state collections, cooperation with the Centre for Documentation of Property Transfers of Cultural Assets of Victims of the Second World War made it possible to confirm the works’ provenance and successfully complete the restitution process.

The exhibition also stands as a testament to the successful dialogue between the gallery and the heirs of the original owners. Thanks to financial support from the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, the Moravian Gallery was able to reacquire three key works for its collections, while the Heller family generously donated a fourth painting. These works therefore remain in Brno as a lasting reminder of the Heller family’s cultural legacy and as a symbol of the just redress of historical wrongs.

The project was developed in close cooperation with the Centre for Documentation of Property Transfers of Cultural Assets of Victims of the Second World War and the New York State Department of Financial Services Holocaust Claims Processing Office, and forms part of the ŠTETL FEST programme.
