MAK – Museum of Applied Arts

The MAK – Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna was founded in 1863 as the Imperial Royal Austrian Museum of Art and Industry and has occupied Heinrich von Ferstel's Ringstrasse building since 1871. It collects applied arts and design from the Middle Ages to the present — glass, ceramics, textiles, furniture and the Wiener Werkstätte archive — and shows changing exhibitions on design, architecture and contemporary art. Its Geymüllerschlössel branch in Pötzleinsdorf holds Empire and Biedermeier furniture and the Franz Sobek clock collection.
