Prácheňské muzeum

Prácheňské muzeum is the regional museum of Písek, founded in 1884 as the town museum and housed since 1902 in the former royal castle built in the mid-13th century. Its permanent displays and temporary exhibition halls cover the archaeology, history, nature and fine art of the historic Prácheň region from prehistory to the present, and include a live freshwater fish tank and a working orchestrion. After the 1984–1993 reconstruction its new displays were awarded the Council of Europe's European Museum of the Year prize in 1996.
