Vilhelm Lundstrøm (1893–1950) is one of the most prominent figures in Danish modernism – an artist who began in rebellion and, throughout his career, insisted on renewal and on pursuing his own, often surprising paths.
His work can be divided into distinct periods: from the early Cubist collages and provocative packing-case assemblages to the crumpled oil paintings, the strict Purist compositions, and the monumental blue period. Later came the lighter and more colour-saturated works, where still lifes and nude models served as points of departure for his exploration of colour, form, and balanced compositions.
Across all these shifts, Lundstrøm’s artistic signature remains unmistakable.
