About the exhibition

Glossy bullets and dazzling flowers, brightly polished pistols and pink nails, logos and status symbols that are superimposed on heavy artillery with rapid cuts: Cemile Sahin’s (b. 1990) imagery is colorful, provocative, and seductive. She addresses fundamental issues of society and politics in her bright, high-contrast visual language. C/O Berlin will present Sahin’s first institutional solo exhibition in Berlin. The immersive, site-specific installations by the Kurdish artist and filmmaker combine film, photography, texts, and objects. While Sahin’s works often investigate questions of pop culture, myths, technology, and power, in DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER, she focuses on concepts of love and romance as well as their relationship to consumerism, power, and control. Declarations of love spread in the form of computer viruses, ancient goddesses of love provide the names for programs of military weapons, and the advertisement industry promises eternal unions in the form of a diamond. Sahin examines the close interconnectedness of the imagery of love and war. Between romantic promises and military propaganda, personal longing, and political violence, she explores the thin line between pain and seduction.
