What does it take to live, preserve or fight for peace?

The exhibition DOING PEACE. addresses this question from political, social and personal perspectives. Peace often appears as an abstract concept. DOING PEACE., however, understands it not as a finished state, but as an active, changeable process.

Perspectives for Peace

• The exhibition asks how peace comes about in everyday life, in social structures and in historical contexts – and what role each individual plays in it.

• It focuses on the perspectives of women* and marginalized groups. Their experiences often remain invisible in classical peace narratives. Artistic works, historical events and personal stories open up new perspectives on peace, democracy and justice. Interactive stations invite visitors to reflect on their own positions and to actively participate.

• DOING PEACE. is an invitation to think, feel and act together. Artistic. Critical. Polyphonic.

• With the peace dove Frieda, children and families discover the DOING PEACE. exhibition in a playful way. At five interactive stations, they can try out, participate and find out how respectful coexistence works – even in conflicts.

• Flexibly bookable school workshops invite entire classes to explore peace in an age-appropriate way and contribute their own ideas.

Civic courage as cultural heritage

The Interreg project COURAGE commemorates the 500th anniversary of the Peasants' Wars of 1525, celebrating the historical struggle for freedom rights in the cultural region of Upper Swabia - Allgäu - Vorarlberg.

Democracy and social inclusion are not a matter of course – they require courage and commitment. With exhibitions, events and new collaborations, eleven partners show how relevant the topics of freedom, equality and participation are. The aim is to strengthen civic courage as intangible cultural heritage and to encourage people to actively participate in democratic processes.

This tour offers a brief insight into the current exhibition.

Art & Peace

The exhibition brings together artistic positions that deal with conflict, reconciliation, memory, justice and gender in a complex way. The works are not to be understood as illustrations, but as independent approaches that enable a change of perspective. In this way, peace becomes more than just a silence of weapons.
