Benedikt Tolar – Transformation

The exhibition at the Karlovy Vary Art Gallery presents the work of Benedikt Tolar, who with distinctive humour and a feel for material transforms parts of car bodies, household objects and other found items into sculptures, reliefs and paintings. He combines Duchampian freedom with craftsmanship and a focused search for form. The exhibition emphasises the painterly qualities of his works – layers of colour, the drawing of surfaces, and the shifting play of light and shadow. It invites visitors to discover beauty and new meanings in things we commonly overlook.
