Erik Sikora – Wings of Motifs

The exhibition titled Wings of Motifs presents to the viewers the latest work of multimedia artist Erik Sikora, who lives and works in Košice. It is an extensive series of watercolors of various sizes, created specifically for this exhibition in the Botanical Garden in cooperation with the East Slovak Gallery. Most of the watercolors "grow and climb" in the butterfly greenhouse, which is also referenced by the exhibition's title. As this is – just like last year – a two-part exhibition, some of the watercolors are also hidden in the Moving Landscape in the courtyard of the main building of the East Slovak Gallery. The works in both spaces are exposed to more extreme conditions related to changes in weather, temperatures, and humidity. Most of the watercolors are framed between glass, so we can also perceive them as additional greenhouses, but several of them are also in direct interaction with the environment. Erik Sikora is known primarily for his videos, music, and performances, but now he has thrown himself into painting and is thoroughly enjoying it. This exhibition is a real feast for the eyes, and since Erik is not just a "Džumelec" (a playful term for an artist), it is also a great adventure – a journey into the heart of watercolor.
