Traditional Family / The Traditional Family presents a series of new art objects by sculptor, conceptual artist, and designer Jakub Berdych Karpelis, custom-made for the Whitebox space at GASK. Through stained-glass objects, the artist creates collages from sheet glass and glass vases decorated with high-enamel technique, whose perception has changed over the years, just as the role of the family changes. In the installation, the artist reflects on the interiors of Eastern European households of the second half of the 20th century and addresses family stereotypes and the kitschiness of the family model established by society as a contemporary norm – mother, father, house, and children. The installation views the traditional family model as a changeable and fragile whole and opens a debate about the current multifaceted forms of family relationships.
