Whitechapel Gallery
Whitechapel Gallery is a public art gallery in East London, founded in 1901 in a Charles Harrison Townsend-designed building as one of the city's first publicly funded exhibition spaces. It expanded in 2009 into the former Passmore Edwards library next door. The gallery presents contemporary art exhibitions, artist commissions and retrospectives, and has long served as a launchpad for emerging and established artists alike.
