The exhibition builds chronologically and thematically on the acclaimed project from 2022, which focused on Czech sacral art from 1948-1989. The upcoming exhibition and publication will present and evaluate artworks, architectural modifications, and new constructions in the Czech ecclesiastical environment since 1990, when a fundamental change occurred in the position of churches in the Czech Republic, which significantly impacted artistic and construction activities.
The project is based on a curatorial selection of artistically valuable works and architecture from a wide range of realizations that could emerge without previous restrictions in the period of freedom. It will focus on the sacred spaces of Christian churches, not only Roman Catholic but also the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren, the Czechoslovak Hussite Church, and the Unity of the Brethren.
