An exhibition about the life, rituals, and world of people at the end of the world – in Tierra del Fuego

The TIERRA DEL FUEGO exhibition presents the lives of the indigenous inhabitants of Tierra del Fuego – one of the most remote and harsh regions on the planet. Through archaeological, ethnological, and ethnoarcheological insights, it brings closer their daily lives, livelihoods, rituals, and mythology.

The fates of these communities show not only the extraordinary human ability to adapt to extreme conditions but also the fragility of cultural balance. Over several millennia, local populations managed to adapt to the cold, windy, and rainy environment, yet their culture disappeared during the 20th century due to a combination of external interventions.

The exhibition also reflects how these societies were historically perceived, for example, in the texts of Charles Darwin, and how modern research gradually reveals their complex language, rich symbolism, and sophisticated ritual systems. Prof. Jiří Svoboda's exhibition offers a new perspective on what "civilization" means and how easily a first impression can distort reality.
