Thanks to funding from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, 242 works were purchased, and 468 were donated by Chantal Petit Cieslewicz.
The catalogue documents the oeuvre of Roman Cieślewicz (1930–1996) and gathers information about works held in public and private collections. It also includes a detailed biography of the artist, an essay on his work, the history of the Poznań collection, lists of exhibitions and awards, and an extensive bibliography.
Exhibition of Roman Cieślewicz's works
The launch of the online catalogue is accompanied by an exhibition of selected works by the artist. Presented from 16 to 25 October at the National Museum in Poznań, the works are a curated selection from 1745 objects in the museum's collection. It is the largest and also the most diverse collection of Roman Cieślewicz's works in the world.
The artist's work is distinguished by extraordinary variety of techniques, motifs and themes. Both in works full of iconographic references and quotations from earlier art, and in compositions spare, reduced almost to a sign, his fascination with the image and visual culture is evident.

Roman Cieślewicz – meanders of imagination in archival order
The lecture will be devoted to research being carried out on the documentation and archive of Roman Cieślewicz, a Polish graphic artist who lived and worked in Paris from 1963, while never losing contact with Poland. This material is kept at the IMEC archive centre near Caen in France. The archive is, on the one hand, an important field of research into the artist's working methods and, on the other, reveals the strong and lasting relationships and connections between Cieślewicz and important figures from Polish culture and art.
