The Fifth Chair

Opening 9. 12. 2026

Curated by Emma Hanzlíková

Peter Watkins (b. 1984) is a British artist living and working in Prague. His practice focuses on family memory.

In the exhibition Fifth Chair (Pátá židle), he returns to the Berlin house of his German grandmother and to her stacks of Die Zeit magazines, which she diligently read every week for several decades. The archive of discarded magazines is a record of a woman's life in liberal post-war Europe. An authorial photographic project supplemented by screen-print fragments, it is an exploration of the family archive and the boundaries of one's own identity.
