A Whole Different Animal

A group exhibition marking the 20th anniversary of Hunt Kastner gallery, curated by Jen Kratochvil and Laura Amann Marín, will feature both new and existing works by twenty-three artists, who the gallery have represented over the years. The exhibition project, themed around a birthday celebration, will fill the main exhibition space as well as the projekt_room and courtyard. The gallery was founded by Camille Hunt and Kacha Kastner in 2006 in response to a continued need for professional representation of Czech artists both locally and abroad. Hunt Kastner began its operations in premises on Kamenická street in Letná, from where it moved to Bořivojova street in Žižkov in 2013.

There are b-days, and there are b-days. Those you wanna celebrate, those you wanna just live through without even noticing, and those you’d rather forget about altogether. This one is definitely worth a proper bang! There are galleries, and there are galleries. Different animals in the jungle of the art world. Coming together to hug everyone and sing happy birthday might not be the traditional serious art vibe, but the times are changing; new animals on the block bring new habits, time is passing, sentiment and hints of nostalgia growing, new voices with fresh eyes and ears coming in to turn everything upside down before realizing someone did that already. 20 years is a blink of an eye. 20 years is really something. Especially in the former East, in the now so-called Central-Eastern Europe; especially for a private gallery here. 20 artists represented by the gallery, along with some long-term friends and current or former colleagues, present their works composed into a scenography of a celebration. There are parties, and there are parties… Join us for this one, whether you remember the first show 20 years ago or this is your first time around at Hunt Kastner.
