NGP: New Media – Lukáš Hofmann: Sospiri

Jun 12, 2026 – Feb 21, 2027

Intervention by the Jindřich Chalupecký Society: Ezra Šimek

The exhibition presents Lukáš Hofmann and his work Sospiri from the Magnus Art Collection, which the gallery acquired in 2024 as a donation from J&T Banka. The work is a cinematically dramatized record of a several-hour performance that Hofmann staged in the Veletržní palác as part of the exhibition of nominees for the Jindřich Chalupecký Award. It creates a temporary community of performers and viewers, a space in which it ceases to matter whether the emotions expressed by the performers are spontaneous or staged.

As part of the long-term collaboration between the National Gallery Prague and the Jindřich Chalupecký Society, the lower gallery spaces will also feature a film by Ezra Šimek.

Lukáš Hofmann (b. 1993) works primarily in the fields of performance and installation, while also being active as a curator. He is known for choreographic projects involving dozens of performers in carefully composed costumes and in direct interaction with audiences.

Ezra Šimek (b. 1997) works across film, performance, installation, sound, and text. Drawing on popular culture, queer and trans experiences, and a deep interest in storytelling as a form of resistance, his practice combines speculative fiction, personal memories, and diverse genre formats.

Admission to the space NGP: New Media is free of charge up the stairs from the Small Hall of the Trade Fair Palace.
