The exhibition focuses on individuals from different eras who tell their very own money stories. From their perspective, visitors can experience how people encountered the economic challenges and opportunities of their time. Their stories illustrate how money has shaped everyday life, trade, politics, and social change – and how each generation has had to rethink money anew.
The special exhibition in OeNB West takes visitors through more than two millennia, showing how closely economic developments are linked to political decisions and social upheavals. The journey spans from Roman coin reforms, medieval trade, and early modern financial crises to paper money, credit cards, and digital currencies.
The displayed objects invite visitors to discover money as a mirror of human history – as a medium of trust, innovation, and crisis management.
