“Water and Fashion. A Circularity Formula.” shows fashion from the perspective of resources we do not see in everyday life. The starting point is water, one of the most important natural resources and at the same time an element hidden at almost every stage of making a garment: from growing raw materials, through dyeing and finishing fabrics, to use and washing. The exhibition, however, does not focus solely on environmental problems. It shows above all possibilities for change: circularity, eco-design, upcycling, recycling, artcycling, new technologies, and a return to quality, craftsmanship and responsible design. All the pieces presented on mannequins were made using upcycling techniques by Polish designers who belong to the community of Fundacja Play Sustain. Many of them were created within the international competition Designers Play Sustain. This exhibition invites viewers to look at the fashion industry through the lens of one of the most precious natural resources, water. It shows the scale of its use and encourages reflection on our own consumer choices. At the same time, we do not focus only on the problem. We also present possible directions for change: upcycling, recycling, artcycling, the use of natural materials, local techniques, craftsmanship and responsible design.
