À propos de l’exposition

Let Piero draw you in

Artist and scientist, the Italian Renaissance painter Piero della Francesca changed the way we see.

Walk into Piero’s world. Blue skies, nature, the hills of the Tuscan countryside that surrounded him, and light, flooding through windowpanes and reflected in rivers.

Piero’s vision transformed the art of painting. He combined his fascination with light and his own mathematical discoveries in perspective to produce scenes of extraordinary beauty.

Piero’s paintings set him apart. Serene figures, natural landscapes, harmonious interiors and intriguing compositions present religious stories in a revolutionary way, inviting viewers to look closer. Important patrons, dukes from the most cultured courts across Italy, had never seen anything like it.

In the largest exhibition ever devoted to Piero, see some of his most celebrated altarpieces in all their splendour, reunited for the first time in centuries. The display includes the world-famous double portrait of Federico da Montefeltro and Battista Sforza from the Uffizi, Florence, the 'Sant’Antonio Polyptych' from Perugia, other loans from around the world and the National Gallery’s own ‘Baptism of Christ’, ‘Saint Michael’ and ‘Nativity’.

Join us as we celebrate the art and science of Piero, whose timeless paintings still inspire artists, filmmakers and writers today.
