ANNEA LOCKWOOD: A SOUND MAP OF THE DANUBE

Se termine dans 23 jours28 oct. – 29 nov. 2026

À propos de l’exposition

Annea Lockwood (*1939) is renowned for her exploration of natural acoustic sounds across different media, ranging from installations to concert music. In the context of this year’s production of Wien Modern and the MAK, her multi-channel installation, created between 2001 to 2005, can be experienced in Vienna for the first time.

A Sound Map of the Danube traces the Danube and its surroundings from its sources in the Black Forest to its delta at the Black Sea, inviting the audience to encounter nature and its lively, complex soundscapes through attentive listening. Interwoven with the soundscape of the river are the voices of twelve people whom Annea Lockwood interviewed regarding the meaning of the river for their lives.

The soundscape of the river is interwoven with the voices of twelve people for whom the river plays a central role in their lives. They were asked, “What does the river mean to you? Could you live without it?” They spoke to us in their native languages, thus the audio is accompanied by a book with translations into German and English, as well as a large wall map showing the places where the recordings were made. Based on the wall map and a time display, listeners can follow the course of the river. (Annea Lockwood)
