Money
À propos de l’exposition
Money is our constant companion; everyday life without money is hard to imagine. It serves as a means of payment, a store of value and a unit of account all at once. But it is important: it concerns us all!
But what is actually meant by “money”? Coins and banknotes are today the elements of cash payments, yet they are only two of many ways to pay!
Discover in the permanent exhibition “Money” why cocoa beans were once weighed against silver and why a tulip bulb could mean the difference between “poor” and “rich”. Over 250 objects bring the diverse history of money to life.
You will also gain insight into the wide-ranging tasks of the OeNB, which since its founding over 200 years ago has been subject to constant change. The guiding values of stability and security, however, were never lost sight of.
