KASPAREK AND HURVINEK CELEBRATING | exhibition
20. 2. - 30. 12. 2026
Muzeum luhačovického Zálesí
Curator: Blanka Petráková
In 2026, we commemorate 10 years since the inscription of Czech and Slovak traditional puppet theatre on the UNESCO list of intangible world cultural heritage, and at the same time, 100 years will have passed since the creation of the iconic puppet Hurvínek. The exhibition connects these two anniversaries and presents Hurvínek as Kašpárek's younger brother, born into the modern era.
The exhibition will feature family puppet theatres from the museum's collections, complemented by a panel section with information on the history of this phenomenon. The space is supplemented by historical marionettes from museum and private collections, peep-show puppet theatres by the Luhačovice puppeteer and artist František Petrák, and a play area where children can try their hand at puppet theatre, operating basic types of puppets such as hand puppets, marionettes, or javajkas. Film screenings with recordings of traditional puppet theatre performances will also be on display.
A leporello for creating one's own paper tabletop theatre has been published for the exhibition, which will be used for school educational programs and will be available for purchase at the museum.
