Lea Guldditte Hestelund (1983) often creates physical fictions, unfolded in installations and interdisciplinary collaborations, where the sculptural body is often accompanied by literature, scent, or music.
While her breakthrough works addressed Western culture's long-standing idealization of specific genders and body types, Hestelund's art has evolved over the last decade, allowing for the introduction of a different body: a caring body. This comes with a vulnerability, with motherhood and the experience of bodily monstrosity, and with an exploration of the divergent body's being in the world.
Her works have been exhibited at Aldea – Center for Contemporary Art, Design and Technology (NO), TANK Shanghai (CN), Overgaden – Institute of Contemporary Art (DK), FRAC SUD (Marseille), Art Sonje Center (Seoul), Kunsthal Charlottenborg, Copenhagen Contemporary, ARKEN, ARoS, Kunsten, among others. In recent years, Hestelund has also contributed several works to public spaces, including the sculpture group Beboerne from 2024 for Aalborg.
