Lucie Rosická, Soft Breakdown

Lucie Rosická (1998) presents an intimate exploration of the transformation of female identity through motherhood, physicality, and introspective observation. Formally, it builds on the artist’s previous work, which is characterized by a conceptual exploration of the boundaries between traditional textile techniques and contemporary visual language. Rosická consistently works with materials such as velvet, beds, and acrylic gel nails, which she transforms into figurative embroideries and objects with a tactile quality. She occasionally combines these elements with airbrushing or 3D-printed components, creating layered structures that function as time-bound visual diaries anchored in her current life situation. In the project Soft Breakdown, Lucie Rosická explores — primarily through satin embroidery with dark thread — her own body as both a medium and a space of conflict. This self-reflective process tracks physical and mental states, whether fatigue, despair, or disappointment, and it is precisely these new, previously unarticulated emotions that she is willing to share in her textile works. In her current work, the roles of mother, woman, and artist intersect, simultaneously challenging and reinforcing one another. Soft Breakdown explores the specific period immediately following the transformative experience of early motherhood, when — instead of the expected return to one’s former self and personal autonomy — there arises the necessity to focus on the complicated process of reassembling one’s own fragmented identity.
