Open Zone is an exhibition space made available to students of artistic and design fields from our region. It is an initiative where the boundary between the host institution and the guest creator blurs. The Silesian Museum, together with young artists, invites you to follow creative activities within cyclical exhibitions in display cases in the outdoor area.

Idea and coordination: Ludwika Mach and Wojciech Bednarski.

Escape Velocity – the first exhibition in the Open Zone presenting photographs by students of the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice.

In astrophysics, the escape velocity of a celestial body refers to the minimum initial speed an object must have to leave the gravitational field of that celestial body. Inspired by this law, over the past months, individuals have explored the cultural meanings associated with imaging the Cosmos. They examined photos created for scientific purposes and artistic endeavors. They sought references in everyday life or built their own universes. As a result, series of photographs were created, offering various perspectives on our presence in the Cosmos.
