The Hallelujah House: Inside Handel's HQ

Sep 17, 2026 – Mar 14, 2027

About the exhibition

To mark 25 years of Handel’s London home being open to the public, Hallelujah House: Inside Handel’s HQ explores the music Handel composed and performed whilst calling 25 Brook Street home. Discover how the House was far more than a place to live, uncover the stories behind some of his greatest works and follow the music created within these walls as it travelled across London, from its theatres and taverns to its grandest royal occasions.

Bringing together loans from the National Portrait Gallery, the Foundling Museum, the Victoria & Albert Museum, The College of Optometrists and rarely displayed objects from the House's own collection, the exhibition reveals the people, places and stories behind Handel's London life. Highlights include The Music Party by Philip Mercier, manuscripts in Handel's own hand, rarely seen portraits of his musical colleagues, and fascinating objects that bring to life the music, business and daily routines that filled Brook Street.

For over 30 years, Handel’s Brook Street home was at the heart of his extraordinary career. Far more than simply a place to live, it was where he composed, rehearsed, conducted business and entertained the musicians, patrons and friends who surrounded him. From Messiah and Zadok the Priest to his operas and final great oratorios, some of Handel’s most celebrated music began life here before finding audiences far beyond Brook Street.

Step inside Handel’s HQ and discover the music, people and places that shaped his life at Brook Street and made him one of Georgian London’s most celebrated musical figures.

The exhibition is supported by Hallett Independent
