Timelessness

The gallery’s collection of 19th-century works, particularly paintings, ranks among the leading art collections in the Czech Republic, as it comprehensively maps developmental currents and trends throughout the entire century. This exhibition explores the expressive transformations through which the art of painting evolved, including elements of lyricism, poeticism and nostalgia, situated on the boundary between imaginative and realistic vision. At the same time, these works are imbued with a powerful atmosphere and a peculiar sense of timelessness. Artists represented at the exhibition include Václav Brožík, Alois Bubák, Vojtěch Hynais, Antonín Machek, Amálie Mánesová, Quido Mánes, Antonín Mánes, Julius Mařák, Hugo Ullik and many more.
