Tomáš Mitura: Chasing Shadows

Tomáš Mitura’s mural Chasing Shadows, which follows on from Lucie Lučanská’s work presented here last May, is a piece that straddles the boundaries of expressive painting, street art, comics, and subcultural imagery. The central motif is a pair of characters - a bald boy and a girl goalkeeper - grinding along the edges of the sidewalks. They climb up a precarious cone, toward an undefined danger. They are figures without a foothold, moving through the city as if in a game whose rules change unpredictably as they walk. Tomáš Mitura himself comments on the mural’s theme as follows: “In the streets, a person is like on a battlefield, always in a hurry, and the rules are constantly changing.”
