A World Being Read

The new permanent exhibition A World Being Read presents the collection of the Museum of Literature (Památník národního písemnictví) in ten thematically focused displays. The exhibition does not follow any specific narrative line; it captures selected artistic interpretations of individual and societal experience in 19th and 20th-century literature. It asks what literature is in its diversity and what possibilities there are for its visualization. Literature is viewed in the exhibition through examples of literary works in the form of manuscripts, as well as books, film adaptations, video art, sound recordings, artworks, and three-dimensional objects. The basic orientation element in the exhibition is a QR code for each exhibit, through which visitors enter an online catalog where they will find a variable range of information about the exhibits, which will change throughout the duration of the exhibition. The main message of the exhibition is to present literature as an open and inspiring space for one's own reading and understanding of the world.
