KÜNSTLERINNENHAUS

An illuminated sign makes the KÜNSTLERINNEN (female artists) shine brightly in large letters. Billi Thanner is responsible for this. The renowned concept and light artist has been a household name to all art lovers in Austria since 2021 at the latest, when she impressively staged the "Himmelsleiter" (Stairway to Heaven) at St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna, causing a great deal of positive attention both at home and abroad. Now, with her unmistakable signature in white neon, she is designing the KÜNSTLERINNENHAUS for the large central window of the building's outer facade.

"With my artwork, I want to send a powerful message for female presence in the art world," emphasizes Thanner. The illuminated lettering shines in Vienna's public urban space and can be read as a statement for equality and female creativity. In addition, the temporary light intervention is also a gesture of recognition and appreciation for the numerous female members of Austria's oldest artists' association, both for the artist and for the institution.

Ursula Simacek, CEO of the SIMACEK Group, made this art installation possible in proven cooperation with Billi Thanner, just as she did the Himmelsleiter in 2021.
