In this exhibition, people with Down syndrome tell their own stories. Personal, humorous, and diverse, they offer insights from their own perspective into everyday life, school and work environments, friendships, hobbies, and dreams. It is an invitation to discover new perspectives and to have encounters on equal terms.
Through photographs, interviews, and artworks, the exhibition makes visible what matters to people with Down syndrome, what motivates them, which social barriers they and their families face on a daily basis, and how they contribute their strengths, talents, and creativity.
No clichés, no pity, no sugarcoating. People with Down syndrome do not need any of that — they need only what should be self-evident for all of us: space, support, and the opportunity to live self-determined lives, together with their families and within society as a whole.
The personal stories are accompanied by essential information and facts that provide insights into educational opportunities, leisure activities, the labor market, and independent living. Some progress has been made — much still remains to be done.
The exhibition was developed in close collaboration with people with Down syndrome: from graphic co-design and content feedback to the results of joint workshops.
