Almost Everything

In her works, Aneta Grzeszykowska addresses existential themes, explores the phenomenon of identity, and tracks the ambivalences of the human image.

The artist is interested in the performative dimension of photography and the potential of this medium, allowing for the manipulation of images and their creative travesties. For example, she removes figures from photos, questions her own identity, and unceremoniously appropriates the works of other artists for her own purposes.

Her own body remains the primary creative material for Grzeszykowska, through which she explores the complex spectrum of identity. Conceptually, experiences and emotions drawn from her own life are also important to her. The artist most often works in cycles, which allows her to repeatedly process various aspects of the problems and phenomena she undertakes. In addition to photography, Grzeszykowska's most famous works include doll sculptures sewn since 2007 as self-portraits or imaginary likenesses of her daughter from the future.

The exhibition is retrospective. It will feature works from eleven photographic series created between 2006 and 2026, as well as video films and the sculpture Franciszka 2025 from the CSW Collection. The substantive consistency that characterizes Grzeszykowska's work allows for the achronological combination of photos from different series. From this peculiar palimpsest emerges a story about the progressive deconstruction of one's own identity, growing existential anxiety, and the inevitable passing – a gradual descent into nothingness. Fortunately, the artist often counters the thematic seriousness of her works with humorous elements, and her works are enveloped in an aura of uncanny wonder.
