Can one trust red

For the exhibition at Ujazdowski Castle, Róża Litwa has prepared new works that develop themes consistently present in her art: reflections on the human condition and emotions, on being in relation to others, and on a rapidly changing reality.

The leading theme is the titular trust. What does it mean to trust – systems, other people, oneself – when everything around seems increasingly blurry, fragile, and uncertain?

Róża Litwa's paintings, spatial works, and animations prompt reflection on the individual and social dimensions of trust. In times when distrust in institutions is growing, and digital media blur the contours of the existing world and question our sense of reality, art – thanks to its expressive power and resistance to various simplifications – allows for a penetrating expression of growing anxieties.

The artist has developed a distinctive visual language, built on minimalist and timeless metaphors, symbols, and signs. Using recognizable yet richly ambiguous motifs, Róża Litwa expresses a whole palette of experiences and emotions that shape contemporary man. She combines autobiographical threads with a more systemic, sociological reflection. As an insightful and sensitive observer, the artist points to literature as one of the most important inspirations, triggering the entire creative process. It is no surprise, then, that the titular red refers to Anne Carson's novel-poem Autobiography of Red.
