Exhibition "THE TAVERN OF OUR GREAT-GRANDFATHERS"
About the exhibition
· Show originalTaverns and inns were always the centres of social life. From 1867, when laws on association and assembly rights were issued, pubs became the "refuges" of newly founded associations. Their members met here mainly at committee meetings or general assemblies. The prosperity of every inn naturally depended on the satisfaction of its guests, and that depended not only on the quality of drinks and food, but also on entertainment. Card tables, billiard tables, chess and a bowling alley were therefore provided for guests. Summer outdoor gardens, where people danced to the accompaniment of a "live band", were popular. Inns were also often located near excursion sites.
This exhibition aims to evoke the atmosphere that prevailed in pubs in the 1920s and 1930s. The objects on display come from the collection fund of the Museum of South-East Moravia in Zlín, and for some of them we also know the place where they were originally used. The bar counter, for example, comes from an inn in Provodov-Maleniska, and the cash register with a coffee machine served at the Monako in Zlín, which was located near the railway station.
