Waters full of sediment often appear murky and opaque. Countless particles stirred up by wind, tides, storms, floods, or even human activity seem to veil our view of life beneath the water's surface. Yet we pay little attention to the dispersed sediment itself. It is nonetheless a testament to movement, past or present, and at the same time it harbours life, colours and diverse forms.
This seemingly uniform cloud of inorganic matter is in fact a diverse world. Particles of mud, clay and sand provide space for the life of algae and bacteria, mingle with organic matter, microorganisms and other tiny forms of life, which find food and shelter in this opaque environment. Minerals and living organisms at the same time reflect and scatter light, creating complex light conditions on a microscopic level.
Sediment Nodes explores relationships and interconnections between elements that we usually consider inanimate or inactive, yet which, under the influence of external forces, are set in motion. It reveals a diversity of colours and light that remains hidden from our sight, either because of the minute scale of these phenomena or as a result of light scattering and osmosis in the aquatic environment.
Entangled Others is an experimental art duo formed by Feileacan Kirkbride McCormick and Sofia Crespo. In their work they explore relationships between the natural world, living organisms and human technologies. Through digital art they raise questions of the mutual interconnectedness of life, technological biases, and the boundaries between the human and the more-than-human world. Their work emphasises the diversity and complexity of the ecosystems of which we are an inseparable part. Their works have been presented at international exhibitions and in institutions such as the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, Toledo Museum of Art, MIT, UNESCO in Paris, and the Times Square Midnight Moment in New York. Their works are also held in collections including the Buffalo AKG Art Museum, the Onassis Foundation and Colección SOLO
EXTENDED creates space for the regular presentation of contemporary digital art and new media art in Košice. The project presents work by domestic and international artists, supports the development of the local art scene, and connects art with new technologies and the public. It also develops international cultural cooperation and contributes to realising Košice's potential as a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the field of media arts.
The project was supported by the City of Košice and Creative Industry Košice
