Jaroslav Král — Returns to Písek
À propos de l’exposition
This exhibition of drawings and paintings by Jaroslav Král (1883–1942), assembled from the collection of the Prácheňské muzeum and from private loans, reflects the artist's relationship with Písek. The painter's family lived here for eleven years from 1905. At that time Jaroslav Král, studying at the Academy of Fine Arts under Vojtěch Hynais in Prague, visited Písek frequently. Besides his parents, sister and brother, the artist also had in Písek his uncle MUDr. Václav Šťastný, founder and chief physician of the Písek hospital.
The painter received prestigious commissions here. He portrayed the poet Adolf Heyduk with his wife, and Prince Bedřich Schwarzenberg, the first chairman of the board of the District Hospital in Písek. Jaroslav Král's caricatures include the builder Ing. Jan Kodl, an international society of students who attended the violin school of Otakar Ševčík, Mikoláš Aleš, a native of nearby Mirotice, and others. Among the estate of the artist, who was murdered in Auschwitz, several paintings depicting views of the town and river have survived. Through documents, the exhibition will also commemorate the figure of MUDr. Václav Šťastný.
