The project, supported by the artist's estate, will illuminate all phases of his work, from his beginnings at the Kunstakademie to his last works in the studio here.
The approximately 120 exhibits include large-format painting series, wood and bronze sculptures, as well as drawings and archival material never before shown. In addition to the breadth of his creative work, the presentation highlights Immendorff's persistent questioning of the artist's role in society. The simultaneous confrontation with pressing social and political contexts is just as much a focus as the contradictions of his own person.
