The project, supported by the artist's estate, will shed light on all phases of his creative work, from his beginnings at the Kunstakademie to his last works in his studio here.
The approximately 100 exhibits on display include large-format painting series, wood and bronze sculptures, and never-before-seen drawings and archival material. In addition to the breadth of his creative work, the presentation highlights Immendorff's persistent questioning of the artist's role in society. The simultaneous confrontation with socially pressing political contexts is as much a focus as the contradictions of his own person.
