What do we see when we look at an image? And what influence do space and time have on our perception of reality?
Photography and moving images have long served not only as reproductions of reality or as documentation to capture moments for the long term. The artists in the exhibition show that the image can be a construction, a chemical or digital process, a spatial assertion, or a linguistic fragment.
Under the title In Szene gesetzt (Staged), Made in Düsseldorf #8 unites works from the art collection of Stadtsparkasse Düsseldorf at Kunstpalast that explore the tension between reality and human perception. Using photography, film, sound, or sculpture, the artists question the possibilities of depicting reality. In doing so, they make media itself the subject and, with the help of various strategies, reveal its potentials, limitations, and translation services. The artistic (de)construction of reality opens up new perspectives for us.
Works by Jan Dibbets, Simon Dybbroe Møller, Andreas Gefeller, Gudrun Kemsa, Sophie Meuresch, Steven Pippin, Barbara Probst, Amanda Ross-Ho, and Juergen Staack are on display.
