Step into the former coach house of the noble manor and see what a landowner needed for traveling! The Museum of Noble Tradition in Waplewo Wielkie, after revitalizing the building of the former coach house, opened a new exhibition on February 7, 2026, where you can admire carriages and travel accessories from old times. This summarizes the second stage of the revalorization of the historic manor and park complex, once belonging to the Sierakowski counts.
The exhibition A Nobleman on a Journey is another element presenting the former life of the nobility and gentry at the Museum of Noble Tradition, a branch of the National Museum in Gdańsk. It is the culmination of the second stage of revalorization and adaptation of the historic manor and park complex in Waplewo Wielkie for museum, tourist, and recreational functions. The first stage included the revitalization of the palace, the second the restoration of the coach house, conservation of the entrance gate along with the reconstruction of sculptural decorations, and renovation of the retaining wall within the driveway.
The coach house is one of many utility buildings of the wealthy Sierakowski counts' estate, and the exhibits presented in it show what accompanied the everyday and long journeys of a landowner.
The first room refers to the authentic character of the coach house. Although no photographs of its interior have survived, it is known that both carriages for daily outings and for longer journeys were stored there. Harnesses, horse gear (saddles, saddlecloths), bridles (bridles and reins), riding crops, and shafts hung on the walls, and carriage lanterns stood on the shelves. A great attraction, especially for the youngest visitors, is the accessible carriage – you can get in and "let your imagination run wild".
