Meet the Faces of the Soldiers of the AK Battalion »Pięść«

Ends in 27 days

The exhibition "Meet the Faces of the Soldiers of the AK Battalion »Pięść«. From guarding the Home Army High Command to fighting in the Warsaw Uprising" presents the history of this Home Army unit and the people who made it up.

The narrative begins with a special counterintelligence unit of the Union of Armed Struggle, formed in 1941 - 993/W, codename "Wapiennik" - which guarded the ZWZ High Command and eliminated traitors and Nazi officials. "Wapiennik" carried out many well-known combat and execution operations.

In July 1944 the unit joined the Battalion AK "Pięść" being formed and, within its ranks, took part in the Warsaw Uprising. Fighting fierce battles, it went through the entire combat route of the "Radosław" Group. Some soldiers commanded by the famous Silent Unseen Lt. Stanisław Jankowski "Agaton" served in the Home Army High Command protection unit. Jankowski himself, while in German captivity, was adjutant to Gen. Tadeusz Komorowski "Bór".

The exhibition presents, on display panels, colour photographs of the soldiers of "Wapiennik" and the Battalion "Pięść". The panels are accompanied by their keepsakes: decorations, membership cards, white-and-red armbands, kenkarty, personal belongings, and pieces of military equipment used by the battalion's soldiers.

You will also see mementos of Stanisław Jankowski "Agaton", Lucjan Wiśniewski "Sęp" and Lt. Jan Kowalczyk "Kieł".

The exhibition was organised in cooperation with the Warsaw Rising Museum in Warsaw, the Association Historical Group "Zgrupowanie Radosław" and the Battalion "Pięść" community. The panels were designed by Jacek Sztejerwald.
