Nowa Huta – Dimitrowgrad – Open-Air Exhibition
About the exhibition
· Show originalDimitrowgrad is a city built from 1947 onward, where chemical, machine-building, food, fuel and energy, textile, clothing, leather and furniture industries developed. The exhibition addresses the following topics concerning both Nowa Huta and Dimitrowgrad:
- Who built the city?
- How the city was built – stages of expansion
- Examples of architects working in the city
- Use in propaganda
- Large industrial plants
- Green areas
- Writers describing the city, including those criticizing the realities of the political system
- Outdoor sculptures (their dismantling)
- Mutual contacts and relations between Dimitrowgrad and Nowa Huta
- Sport and its links to workplaces, sports disciplines with successes
- The present day
These themes are the result of meetings between representatives of the Muzeum Nowej Huty and the Muzeum Historycznego w Dimitrowgradzie, in particular our visit to Bulgaria in August 2025. The selection presented above makes possible a comprehensive presentation of both places, from their construction to the present day. The idea of meetings between museum professionals refers to the mutual visits of representatives of Nowa Huta and Dimitrowgrad during the Polish People's Republic era, starting from 1955.
The exhibition fits within the aims of the ATRIUM project – an international cultural route of the Council of Europe presenting the architecture of 20th-century totalitarian regimes. Kraków with Nowa Huta was included in it in 2024. Dimitrowgrad is also part of it.
