Exhibition: Pilsen Shooting Targets 1792 – 1885

The exhibition freely follows on from the exhibition "Pilsen City Armory", which introduces museum visitors to city weapons and Pilsen as a fortified city from the Hussite Wars to the Thirty Years' War. It is dedicated to the history of the armed Pilsen bourgeois sharpshooter corps and presents the period from the end of the 18th century to the second half of the 19th century. For the first time, a set of 47 Pilsen painted shooting targets, preserved in the collections of the Museum of West Bohemia in Pilsen, which have undergone demanding restoration, is exhibited. The existing targets are supplemented with panels with photographs of 27 lost targets that disappeared at the end of World War II. The targets are not only evidence of shooting competitions and club life, but also an important source for the development of regional painting and visual culture, and at the same time they are evidence of the urban planning of the city of Pilsen and its development. Target holders from the period will also be presented at the exhibition.
