Jiří Fiedler (1935–2014) kept travel diaries from the age of thirteen until the end of his life, primarily from his journeys through Bohemia and Moravia. His means of transport included a bicycle, hitchhiking, bus, and train. At sixteen, he first took a camera with him and began systematically documenting castles and chateaux, churches, chapels, cemeteries, synagogues, and other monuments. More than 40,000 photographs he took during his lifetime represent a unique testimony to the world of often overlooked and disappearing monuments of the second half of the 20th century.
