The exhibition "The Story of Prague Castle" commemorates a thousand-year history of the place where the history of Czech statehood was shaped, through original objects from the collections of Prague Castle, stories of people who worked here, and an interactive program. The exhibition was opened in 2004 in the Gothic floor of the Old Royal Palace. It also includes a children's program, which introduces the history of the castle complex to even the youngest visitors in an entertaining way.
The exhibition is divided into two main parts
The first part introduces important representatives of the Czech state, fundamental historical events, and the architectural development of the castle complex from prehistory to the 20th century. Here you can see models of Prague Castle from various periods of its development, as well as original objects from the castle collections, such as burial robes of Czech rulers or Renaissance glass.
The second line develops inspiring themes across cultural history that are directly connected with Prague Castle, in the form of coherent stories. It is dedicated to Czech patrons, tells about the church and cathedrals, but also about burials, dining, and much more. This part is also complemented by original objects and detailed textual explanations.
Visitors can also watch the film Transformations of Prague Castle as part of the exhibition, which offers a glimpse into the hidden corners of the thousand-year-old sovereign residence.
