The exhibition is based on four authentic automobiles used by Václav Havel, one of which, however, served not President Havel at the end of the twentieth century, but his grandfather at its beginning. While the newer cars are closely associated with Václav Havel's life and presidential office, the older Mercedes 14/30 HP from 1911 was the very first automobile in the Havel family. Ing. Václav Havel, the builder of Prague's Lucerna Palace, drove it from 1912 until his death in 1921, and his wife Emilie then until 1926. In 1950, Ing. Václav Havel, the son of the original owner and father of the future president, donated it to the collections of the National Technical Museum. At that time, however, this car was already without a body, so it was preserved only as a complete chassis.
The automobiles in the exhibition are supplemented by text panels with photographs that recall not only the history of the exhibited cars but also some other cars used by President Václav Havel and his ancestors.
An extra bonus is one automobile from a private collection.
The exhibition is organized by the National Technical Museum and the Prague Castle Administration
