TEMPORARY EXHIBITION | PRINCELY STABLES IN PSZCZYNA | 18 April – 30 November 2026

There Is No Memory of Those Who Lived.

Photography by Mieczysław Wielomski

The latest exhibition at the Stajnie Książęce is the second chapter of Mieczysław Wielomski's photographic work, created in collaboration with the Photographic Association „Przeciw nicości” (Against Nothingness). At the centre of the show is the series “There Is No Memory of Those Who Lived”, inspired by a passage from the Old Testament Book of Ecclesiastes.

For the photographs in this series, Wielomski used digital photography, skilfully combining elements of 19th-century painting with urban landscapes he captured during his many travels, mainly in Upper Silesia.

mieczysław wielomski

A distinguished Polish artist-photographer and member of the Association of Polish Photographic Artists and the Photo Club of the Republic of Poland. He worked within several photographic groups, such as Kron, Hard, Ladskapiści and Pictorial Team, as well as the Photographic Association „Przeciw Nicości”, which bears his name. He received more than one hundred awards in national and international competitions, including the Sinar Photography Award and the Jan Bułhak Medal. In 2017, shortly before his death, he was honoured with the Photo Club RP medal “For Merit to Polish Photography”.

His entire private and artistic life was bound to Silesia. He was born on 1 January 1948 in Wałbrzych, spent his childhood and youth in Bytom, then lived in Tychy, and for the last forty years in Czechowice-Dziedzice. His work focused mainly on mountain landscapes, but in the last years of his life he discovered the charm of the lowlands around Goczałkowice and Pszczyna. He died on 4 March 2018, leaving behind a rich artistic legacy.
