Mining Traditions

Permanent

MINING TRADITIONS is the next permanent exhibition of the Muzeum Polskiego Przemysłu Siarkowego. Set up in the attic, the display recalls traditions associated with the miner's profession, primeval superstitions and beliefs, and the cult of St. Barbara. Presented are mining uniforms and their lineage, as well as past and present symbols of mining. Also on show is a collection of shift foremen's picks and tankards from St. Barbara's Day mining taverns, from coal, salt, aggregate, copper, oil, gas and sulphur mines. The exhibition is complemented by commemorative medals cast from sulphur.
