Royal Castle

The Royal Castle in Warsaw is a state museum occupying the former official residence of Poland's kings, overlooking Castle Square at the entrance to the Old Town. Built from the 14th century onward and rebuilt in Baroque-Classicist style, it was destroyed in the Second World War and reconstructed between 1971 and 1984 to its 17th-century appearance. Today it holds a major collection of Polish and European art and hosts a changing programme of temporary exhibitions.
