From approximately 130,000 objects in the Kunstpalast's collection, the permanent exhibition showcases about 800 works across more than 5,000 m² in a chronologically arranged tour.
Famous paintings, such as Rubens' Assumption or Cranach's Unequal Pair, meet exhibits that make some visitors ponder: Birkenstock sandals and an Aldi bag, for example. Is that art? Absolutely!
Whether miniature or monumental work, everyday object or piece of jewelry, sculpture or porcelain, drawing or interactive VR installation – this collection unites all genres. Thanks to regular new acquisitions and rehangings, as well as temporary interventions and special presentations like Palastblühen, the permanent exhibition, now running under the title All Art?!, remains dynamic, and there is always something new to discover on the tour.
The broad concept of art in our collection All Art?! From Aldi to Rubens allows for surprising changes in perspective. The presentation questions historical and contemporary art for its relevance, establishes connections to current topics, and demonstrates commonalities between works that, at first glance, appear very different but were created at the same time – free from art-historical categorizations and regardless of their origin.
Members of the support association Freunde des Kunstpalastes receive free admission and the opportunity to participate in a varied program.
The museum's collection is extensive, with approximately 130,000 objects from 11 centuries, from various continents, and from all epochs and genres. Important parts of the collection include works from the Stiftung Willi Kemp and donations from Wolfgang Hanck, in addition to the historical collection of the Düsseldorfer Kunstakademie.
The presentation of the collection is generously supported by the Landeshauptstadt Düsseldorf, our sponsors and gallery patrons.
