“What do mental health and well-being mean to you?” - Photography Exhibition

By Gerard Banach

Ends in 10 days

We invite you to a unique photography exhibition, the result of a project carried out using the Photovoice method – an approach that, through photographs and commentary, “gives voice” to people who are often denied it, opening up discussion of socially important issues, especially mental health. Collaboration that blurs boundaries

The project is the result of creative work by two groups:

  • Third-year psychology students at Uniwersytet SWPS (full-time and part-time programmes), taking the elective course “Psychology in Participatory Photography”, led by dr hab. Jakub Lickiewicz, prof. UJ.
  • Participants of the “Miodowa Grupa Fotograficzna” (Miodowa Photography Group), operating at the Stowarzyszenie na Rzecz Rozwoju Psychiatrii i Opieki Środowiskowej – people with experience of a mental health crisis, taking classes led by an occupational therapist and photographer, Gerard Banach.

The photographs present individual understandings of well-being and mental health. All works are deliberately signed only with the author’s first name, allowing focus on what is shared and similar in the perception of psychological well-being.

The exhibition is realised using the Photovoice method.
